Friday January 4th
Got checked out of the hotel and got all our stuff loaded into the Suburban, then called Rose and met her for breakfast at Mimi's. (Having done some internet research, I know that Mimi's is a chain owned by the Company that operates the Bob Evans Restaurants in the Midwest.) After breakfast we said our goodbyes and Rose headed to work and we headed back to the hotel to pick up the trailer. The next stop is supposed to be a county park near Monterrey, CA called Luguna Seca Recreation Area. Once we left Roseville we traveled on I-80 until the junction withI-5, when we got on I-5 and headed South. We headed W once we reached CA-152, which connects the big valley with the coast. I could not get the GPS to recognize the address for the Luguna Seca Recreation Area so I told it that the destination was Monterrey. Unfortunately I didn't check the turn by turn directions and it guided us to the coast without going through Salinas. By the time I recognized the error it was nearly dark and we were tired. We headed to the nearest KOA which wasn't far but was mighty expensive. The KOA was owned by the same company that owned a marina next door, so for weekend boaters it was a highly desirable spot. Most interesting to me was that less than a half mile away was a 500 megawatt natural gas power plant.
After getting setup we went to the local overpriced Mexican Restaurant and had dinner.
